Conditions of Abstract Submission

Specifications and Guidelines for Abstract Submission

Abstracts will be rated based on the 7 criteria:

  • Person-centred care that generates the impact of subject compliance and quality of life. A noticeable improvement in subject condition is preferred.
  • Demonstrate effective wound management outcomes focusing on prevention of infection and promote healing.
  • Describe the wound management strategies used based on best practices, and clinical or scientific evidence.
  • Involvement of a multidisciplinary team approach in the subject’s care plan.
  • The authors drive the change of subject pathway, which influences wound management practices and outcomes within the organization or more widely. 
  • Develop innovative and/or adapted ideas to improve wound outcomes.
  • Provide evidence of sustainability and prudent cost savings for the institution and subject.
  • Abstract submitted should follow the criteria and theme of the Excellence Case Sharing Award for the year.
  • Abstracts are to be submitted using the ECSA Abstract Submission Template.
  • Abstracts must be submitted online via the ECSA website. Abstracts submitted by fax, email, or post will NOT be accepted.
  • Abstracts must be submitted before the deadline. The online submission system will close at midnight GMT on 30 October 2024.
  • After submitting your abstract, you will receive an email confirmation that your abstract has been received after 2 working days.
  • The authors may submit one or more case abstracts. Each submission should describe one case subject. As such, each institution may have more than one participating author. However, please do not submit multiple copies of the SAME abstract.
  • Authors can submit your own case study, or you can submit a case study on behalf of a colleague or your team. The presenting author does not have to be the 1st author.
  • Abstracts must be submitted in English with a quality suitable for publication.
  • Authors must be able to present and respond to questions in English at the Grand Final in the event their abstract is selected as a finalist. The presenting author can be the first author or the  coauthor.
  • By submitting an abstract, the author consents to giving Aesculap Academy (organiser) and B. Braun Melsungen AG permission to publish the abstract in the Excellence Case Sharing abstract book and to share the respective cases of the authors herewith.
  • Withdrawal of abstracts can only be accepted by the organiser if notified in writing and subsequently confirmed by the organiser secretariat. Authors may choose to withdraw from participating in the ECSA competition no later than 14 days after the abstract submission deadline.
  • Abstracts must be submitted BEFORE the deadline to be reviewed for inclusion in the award.

 

Title
  • Limited to 25 words.
  • Needs to be in CAPITAL LETTERS.
  • No full stop at the end.
  • Should clearly indicate the nature of the study.

 

Content

  • Limited to 500 words.
  • All abbreviations must be defined in the first use. Statements such as “results will be discussed” or “data will be presented” cannot be accepted.
  • The 7 criteria above needs to be well covered within the abstract.
  • Aim: Clearly state the purpose of the abstract, the burn classification (etiology, depth, percentage of body surface area affected), degree of the burn injury, location, time of exposure among others.
  • Methods: Clearly describe your selection of products, including any Prontosan® Wound products, used in wound bed preparation as well as other products used in the management of the wound. Also indicate observations seen on the case subject.
  • Results and Discussion: Present your results and clinical observation throughout the therapy days in a logical sequence in text, table and illustrations. Then, critically analyse and discuss how the wound progressed. 
  • Conclusion: Emphasise new and important aspects of the study and the conclusions that are drawn from them.
  • Wound images: MUST be included in your abstract.

 

Resource Utilisation Summary

  • Limited to 250 words.
  • This section MUST be filled to demonstrate prudent cost savings during treatment duration.
  • You may discuss the resource utilisation of cleaning solution, gels, dressings, medication (e.g., antibiotics, analgesics), length of stay, cost-of-care setting, disability and prevention of complications in this section.
  • Optional: Documentation of data to support opinions or statements could be attached in the ECSA Abstract Submission Template.
  • Optional: Attach the economical data in wound bed preparation of this case in the resource utilisation table within ECSA Abstract Submission Template.
  • The independent expert panel will review the abstract. 
  • Notification of selection as finallist will be notified one month prior to the Grand Finals in the award year.
  • It is the responsibility of all authors that case studies are performed with respect to national legislation, international legislation and ethical guidelines with regards to both humans and animals. The organiser reserves the right to reject any submitted abstract that is believed to have violated these principles.

 

The following terms apply: 

  • Abstract cannot be modified or corrected after the final submission (by the deadline). Accepted abstracts will be published exactly as submitted. Please ensure all information is correct at the point of submission.
  • Submission of the abstract constitutes the consent of the author and co-author(s) to publication (e.g., award booklet, programmes, other promotions, etc.)
  • The abstract author warrants and represents that he/she is the owner or has the rights to all the information and content (“Content”) provided to ECSA and Asia Pacific Asculap Academy (hereafter: “The Organiser”). It is the responsibility of the abstract owner to ensure that the publication of the abstract does not infringe any third party rights including, but not limited to, intellectual property rights.
  • By submitting the abstract, authors grant the organisers a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, publish, translate, distribute, and display content therein.
  • The organisers reserve the right to remove any publication of an abstract which does not comply with the above.
  • The abstract author is responsible for informing the other co-authors regarding the abstract status.
